Positive People

Duration: March 2017 – March 2023

The Positive People programme was funded by the European Social Fund and the Big Lottery Community Fund with the aim of helping individuals who are out of work to build their confidence and develop their skills.

The programme gave experiences that were personally tailored to each client’s individual needs and includes support with personal development, health and wellbeing, peer mentoring, volunteering opportunities and developing life-skills, such as using digital technology. As well as here in Devon, Positive People was also delivered in Cornwall, Somerset and West Yorkshire.

Devon Community Foundation worked alongside four other partners in the programme, each providing its own unique set of strengths that together formed a cohesive and complete package for clients all over the County.

Positive People supports hundreds of people across Devon to overcome a range of barriers and build a brighter future for themselves and their families."

Community Insight Team

Devon Community Foundation’s role in the Positive People Programme was based on research, provided by our Community Insight Team.

The Community Insight team explored the assets of selected communities across Devon to discover what the residents trust and value. This included buildings, open spaces, community organisations, shared skills and offers; and varied depending on the local identity. This was achieved by physically walking these areas in person and talking to local community members, as well as by carrying out desk-based research.

The team used this research to facilitate connections and used their comprehensive picture of the opportunities and strengths within any given area of Devon, to match clients with support, as well as to inform and support the Positive People teams, the wider DCF team and other outside community and voluntary organisations.
