Grants of up to £5K are available to tackle substance misuse, prevent violence against women and girls and make community spaces safer
A Torbay project which supports people out of addiction by teaching them how to make and sell pizza was among a number of projects and groups which received grants in the last round of funding from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Applications are now open for this year’s Commissioner’s Community Grants and charities and voluntary groups can apply for funding of up to £5,000 for crime prevention initiatives to make community spaces safer, projects focusing on offering education and/or purposeful activities for people with anti-social drug and alcohol issues, and projects or activities aimed at preventing violence against women and girls.
The grant scheme is being delivered in partnership with Devon Community Foundation and aims to benefit small and medium-sized organisations whose work contributes to the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan.
The Commissioner works to enable safer, more resilient communities and this scheme aims to empower smaller voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations to play a role in both progressing and informing policing priorities.
The Commissioner has been working with Devon Community Foundation since 2021 to deliver grant schemes to benefit residents. To date, more than £540,000 has been distributed through 92 grants. Grants have been awarded to groups and charities working to divert people from substance misuse, prevent and deter crime, and protect people at risk of abuse.
Applications to the Commissioner’s Community Grants is now open via Devon Community Foundation’s Small Grants. The deadline for applications to this fund is October 2nd, 2024, but the Small Grants application process remains open throughout the year.
