Perfect Solution for What’s Your Problem

A Torbay Social Enterprise that offers welfare and legal support services has received a £50,000 investment loan from Devon Community Foundation to back its expansion.

What’s Your Problem Torbay was set up in 2015 by Angie Manning to offer confidential, affordable help and support with all legal areas, including family and civil disputes, protection from domestic abuse, welfare benefit applications and appeals, housing, employment and everything in between.

Angie is delighted to be expanding her business, saying:

“This funding is vital to us in developing our effectiveness in the community we serve.  We are committed to plugging the gap in services where people can no longer access the help they truly need. Since the loss of legal aid in key areas of social welfare law, family matters and a whole range of other problems, there are people in the community who are really struggling to get the right support.  It helps us enormously in being able to take on a range of really talented professionals who can sit down with our clients and provide them with end to end support from their first meeting with us in our offices to practical assistance in our courts and tribunals.”

To help make the most of this opportunity, Angie knew she needed a bit of extra support and that’s where Devon Community Foundation stepped in with a loan of £50,000 from their Devon Social Investment Fund. Support from Access and their funding partners Big Lottery Fund and Big Society Capital, enables the fund to provide bespoke loans for entrepreneurial organisations.

Richard Taylor, Social Investment Fund Manager at Devon Community Foundation said: “It has been such a joy to provide What’s Your Problem with hands on business support that ultimately resulted in an investment loan that gives a vital boost on the next step in Angie’s exciting journey. The social enterprise loan will upscale the service through collaboration with professional associates, investment in new office equipment and fund core running costs during this period of expansion”

Angie continued:

“I am so grateful for the business support we have received from Richard Taylor at Devon Community Foundation.  The investment package provides us with a really exciting opportunity to grow our social enterprise within the Torbay area and, in time, deliver our services across South Devon.   We are living proof that Social Enterprises can provide the solution to un-met needs within our community and help people resolve an increasingly complex range of problems.  We are grateful to local services and members of the local legal profession who have been on hand with specialist knowledge and direct access representation when needed.   Since the start, we have received overwhelming support from local services, the community and also previous funding from Big Lottery, UNltd and The Lloyds Banks School for Social Entrepreneurs all of which have given us the encouragement and tools to continue to deliver this much needed service”.
