If you have the talent and determination to come up with a new, sustainable venture to meet the needs and aspirations of an ageing population you may be eligible to apply for a Solutions for an Ageing Society grant. Please read on...
There are currently two programmes running in the South West which aim to improve the experience of ageing and which are seeking to identify, fund and support people who want to make a positive difference to later life; we refer to these people as ‘social entrepreneurs’. Both programmes are committed to helping social entrepreneurs to develop their skills and networks to start and grow their social enterprises over time. The two programmes have slightly different emphasises, are funded by different organisations and delivered in collaboration with different partners, but cover the same geographical areas: Somerset; Devon (including Plymouth and Torbay); Cornwall.
We know that people need different types of support at different stages of developing their ideas and enterprises. All the organisations involved in delivering these programmes are committed to working together to ensure that social entrepreneurs receive the right support, at the right time, to help them progress their ideas. We work closely together to ensure that applicants are referred to the most appropriate scheme – all you need to do is get in contact with one of us to discuss your ideas!
Taking a design-led approach to improving people’s experience of ageing. With a £3.65m fund from the Big Lottery, this new cross-sector initiative will bring together people in later life, social entrepreneurs and health and social care leaders to define, develop and deliver new solutions that better support the needs and aspirations of our ageing communities. More information and application details are available on the Transform Ageing webpage.

How can Devon Community Foundation help?
We want to harness the experience, expertise and innovation of people to help deal with the challenges, and meet the needs and aspirations, of an ageing population. The programme will offer strategic support and cash for Awards to social entrepreneurs who are determined to meet the needs and aspirations of people in later life.
