Devon Community Foundation currently has three exciting vacancies:

Social Investment Manager
*Based in Tiverton 
*22.5 hours a week 
*£40,000 pro rata per annum (£24,000 for 22.5 hours per week). 3 year fixed contract (with possibility of extension)

The role
This is a rare opportunity to take on the management of a brand new £1.2 million social investment fund, dedicated to providing accessible, sympathetic and transformative finance to the social economy of Devon. This will enable those organisations funded to thrive, offering more opportunities to local communities and people in need than ever before.

The Investment Manager is employed by DCF to deliver the investment fund which will be operated through a subsidiary company (DSF) that is being set up expressly for this purpose. You will be fully supporting the expert Investment Committee that determines which funding applications are approved, provides feedback and guidance on unsuccessful applications, and that oversees the management of the portfolio of investments and will be instrumental in recruiting and informing this Committee from the start.

Requirements
You are likely to have a background in investment fund management and/or banking with a good understanding of how to run a portfolio of investments effectively. Will have:

  • Senior proven experience of making and managing investments, and specifically loans
  • Strong analytical skills, particularly of financial statements, models and risk analysis
  • Experience of assessing loan applications and business planning
  • Highly developed and proven project and people management skills
  • A proven ability to generate practical solutions from complex situations, often with competing agendas and with a range of possible outcomes

Social Economy Mentor
*Based in Tiverton 
*22.5 hours a week
*£38,000 pro rata per annum (£22,800 for 22.5 hours per week) Fixed contract to end December 2019 with potential to extend.

The role
We are looking for a Social Economy Mentor to work closely with our Social Investment Manager to develop the social economy of Devon by helping mission-led organisations access high quality business advice and development support as part of a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded project. This role will work closely with organisations to help them identify how their financial sustainability can be secured for the long term. This will then enable those organisations to go further and access financial investment from a variety of sources: not least from the Investment Fund being established by DCF to give loans to applicants with a strong business model and social objectives. There is also grant finance available to help these high potential organisations to put in place the necessary building blocks to be ready for applying for loan and other finance.

Responsible to the Social Investment Manager and with the support of an administrator, you will also be closely connected to a wider partnership of support providers and the DCF team.

Requirements
With proven business support skills and experience in coaching and developing entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises you will also have:

  • A clear understanding of the different forms of financial sustainability for social economy organisations and how to develop business models to access/employ these. (Including social investment, grant finance, contacts and social investment bonds, mainstream business finance, community shares, crowd funding etc.)
  • Understanding of mission-led businesses and social enterprises
  • Development and delivery of holistic support to meet targets and complying with reporting framework and evidence base specified in programme.
  • Self-starter working well on their own and within a small team
  • Strong relationship-builder with stakeholders and partners and experienced in partnership working
  • Track record of effective programme management meeting/exceeding targets and expectations
  • Good understanding of the wider economic development benefits of a thriving social economy in Devon

Social Investment Team Administrator
*Based in Tiverton 
*22.5 hours a week 
*£16,000 pro rata per annum (£9,600 for 22.5 hours) fixed term contract for three years to end March 2020 with the possibility of extension.

The role
The purpose of this role is to be a support administrator for the Social Investment Team at Devon Community Foundation (DCF). This team comprises this role, the Social Investment Manager and the Social Economy Mentor. It will be line managed by the Social Investment Manager with the full support of the DCF Chief Executive, the DCF Team and the Board of Trustees. The role will work closely with the Social Investment Manager (SIM) and the Social Economy Mentor (SEM) to assist them with regular and ad-hoc tasks as required and will require some prioritisation to allow for flexibility of the team in meeting the needs of the Foundation and the team objectives. This is a small team within the larger DCF Team and is brand new. It is, therefore, essential that you like setting up new systems and processes and the variety and challenges that this exciting new initiative offers.

Requirements
We are looking for flexible, adaptable and cheerful people, used to working well on their own and as part of a team. It's important that you have an excellent customer care ethos and enjoy a wide variety of tasks as well as being:

  • Interested in a culture of continuous improvement – i.e. spotting how we could do things better
  • Highly literate and numerate skills

  • Very ICT literate
  • Discreet with confidential information
